Workshop Title: Organisation Behaviour and Internal Communication
This workshop addresses the fundamentals of organisation behaviour and internal communication. Organisations are functions of people and the specific culture that binds the people together. Organisations need to adapt continually in the competitive business environment to better respond to the expectations of their stakeholders. Success depends on the organisational cohesion and unity of purpose which in turn depends on the motivation and behaviour of the people. Organisations need to tap the intellect and energy of their people and this requires appropriate incentives, development of a team culture, creation of a supportive environment and creation of a culture of trust. Organisation behaviour will address organisational dynamics, including:
- Organisational theory
- Perspectives on individual behaviour
- Motivation at work
- Groups and teams
- Management and leadership
- Organisation structure
- Organisational power, politics and conflict
- Organisational culture and relationship to national culture
Internal communication is at the heart of a functioning and dynamic organisation in which staff and management exchange messages continually. It is essential that organisations design and apply effective internal communication processes and evaluate these on a regular basis to ensure that the organisation is on the right track and can meet customers and stakeholders’ expectations competitively. It is self evident that success is dependent on all people who make up an organisation to work together effectively and focus on achieving organisational goals. Internal communication is at the heart of creating dynamic organisations. The areas studied embrace the following:
- Frameworks and strategies for internal communication
- Characteristics of the organisation, including culture, business model etc
- The communication processes and techniques
- Assessment and continuous improvement of internal communications
In summary, this workshop provides a basic grounding in the theory and practice of internal communication integrated with studies of organisation behaviour in contemporary organisations. The aim is to cover the myriad of situations that exist in contemporary organisations.
NOTE: Intensive lecture sessions in each unit are followed by tutorial and case studies or project work sessions for deep learning outcomes. A knowledge assessment will be conducted for those participants wishing to obtain a Certificate of Attainment of a given unit of study.
