Short Summary*

These intensive workshops cover research methods and techniques, literature review process and critical appraisal techniques, data modelling and evaluation techniques, development and testing of hypotheses; interpretation and documentation of findings and other aspects of conducting research/investigation. These workshops are designed to be of value to any student or professional person attempting to learn systematic and validated research methedologies. Once completed the participants should demonstrate a sound understanding of the research and inquiry process, including statistical analysis and validation of any empirical results. The participants will make maximum use of these workshops if they have a research project (whether academic or industry-based case) in hand and wishing to develop a proper research plan for the same.

SBM13011 covers typical approaches, tools and techniques for field research and investigation of the literature which once completed will shed light to the state of the play in a given area and show where the gaps or inconsistencies or disagreements are, etc.

SBM13021 covers the synthesis phase, i.e. typical approaches, tools and techniques for extending the field, creative synthesis of innovative solution, development, validation and presentation of the same in a systematic manner.

Notes:
*Intensive lecture sessions in each unit are followed by tutorial and case studies or project work sessions for deep learning outcomes. A knowledge assessment will be conducted for those participants wishing to obtain a Certificate of Completion of a given unit of study.
